ENGLISH 2 HONORS
With Mrs. Whiteside
My first video project in Whiteside’s class was to make a short film about a legend or story on how something came to be, but not really. I worked with a group and did most of the filming and all the editing. Our story was how zebras got their stripes. I enjoy editing and watching my visions come to life through filming and editing and it’s something I think I’ll be interested in in my future.
This was one of the first essays I wrote for Mrs. Whiteside and you can definitely tell through basic MLA format mistakes. We read the book Okonkwo in class and we’re given the question, “Was Okonkwo’s identity formed by his own actions of formed culturally?” I feel like I understood the question and was able to write enough in response but I did not do good on this essay because of my MLA format mistakes.
This essay we had to combine our knowledge from two different stories we’ve read in class and an outside source to prove or disprove that culture has an effect on current day. This project was a challenge trying to connect the three sources and still have flow in my writing but it was good practice for citing quotes correctly in the writing.
After we read the story of Oedipus in class, we were given a writing assignment to prove wether or not Oedipus actions and fate predetermined his destiny or not. This essay really made me think and it turned out deeper than I expected.
This essay I think was my most successful. I haven’t received my grade for it yet but I really took the time to get my citations and MLA format correct. After reading Cyrano De Bergerac the play, Mrs. Whiteside gave us a challenge. She made use close our eyes as she randomly flipped through the book. We placed our fingers down on the page she opens on and whatever quote our finger landed on, we had to use to describe and relate to the whole story. It was very challenging but she taught us an important lesson that as long as you can use evidence to support your reasoning in a paper, your essay can be written and successfully.
